Getting there and around

Getting there

The house is located in the small village of Vernet les Bains, postcode 66820, just up the valley from the historic walled city Villefrance de Conflent.  The nearest large city is Perpignan, on the coast.

Ryanair flies to Perpignan in the Summer. A bus connects the airport to the train/bus station, and there are plenty of taxis outside the airport.  Carcassonne and Girona airports are also nearby options.

The TGV takes about 5-6 hours Paris to Perpignan.  We often choose this option, and we typically make it in 12 hours door-to-door from Cambridge.

Car hire is available from the usual operators at the airport and train/bus stations.

Getting around

A local bus connects Vernet to Perpignan and Font Romeu.  It is cheap (one Euro per person/per trip) and usually reliable, but the timetable is rather irregular.

The train also connects Villefranche to Perpignan, it is much faster and also costs only one Euro, but you would need to book a taxi for the short 10 mins leg up to Vernet (we can do this for you).

The Little Yellow Train is very useful for accessing certain attractions, notably the hot baths at St Thomas and the ski resorts of St Pierre dels Forcats, Eyne and Font Romeu.
